Increasing Water-Heating System Efficiency

July 12th, 2010 admin

Reducing hot-water usage by increasing water heating system efficiency is primarily a matter of common sense and exerting a little extra effort to not be wasteful. Once you have applied a few simple, low-cost measures for reducing hot-water consumption, you may want to consider water-heating system improvements if you wish to further reduce your energy bill.

Lower Your Water Heater Thermostat

One simple step for reducing water heating energy costs is lowering the thermostat setting on your water heater. Although some manufacturers set water heaters at 140°F (60°C), 120°F (48.9°C) is satisfactory for most household needs. Furthermore, when heated to 140°F, water can pose a safety hazard (i.e., scalding). For each 10° F (5.6°C) reduction in water temperature, water-heating energy consumption can be reduced 3% to 5%.

If your water heater is at least 7 years old, you should carefully evaluate your water heating needs and investigate the types of heaters that could replace your current one.

Although most water heaters last 10 to 15 years, early investigation and timely replacement can ensure a wiser purchase.

If you need help increasing water heating system efficiency,  Dan King Services is here to assist you.

Indoor Air Quality and Air Duct Cleaning

July 9th, 2010 admin

Keeping your air ducts clean is very important. Airborne contaminants are drawn through the duct work of the central air conditioning system via return air registers.

Your goal is to improve your indoor air quality. Indoor air quality (IAQ) refers to the air quality within your home as it relates to the health and comfort of your family.

Believe it or not, poor indoor air quality has prompted doctors and allergists prescribe a clean home furnace and air duct cleaning as a remedy. Indoor Air Quality is one of the top five health concerns of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Air duct cleaning is a great way to make your indoor air quality safer. You should consider having the air ducts in your home cleaned if…

There is visible mold growth inside the duct or on other components of your heating and cooling system.

If you have insulated air ducts and the insulation gets wet or moldy.

  • Ducts are infested with vermin like rodents or insects
  • Ducts are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and particles
  • You have really bad allergies that flair up no matter the season or climate.

One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning in Charlotte has Indoor Air Quality expert technicians that can convert your heating and cooling system into a whole-house Air Treatment Center. Give us a call!

Toilet won’t flush?

June 28th, 2010 admin

Is your toilet not flushing? A plunger is a simple tool that may unplug your toilet within minutes.

Make sure you got a good one! Large the rubber suction cup and wooden handle plungers work the best.

Cup it tightly over the drain and plunge it vigorously several times. Make sure the plunger is sealed to the drain and then pull quickly on the plunger.

The better the suction, the better chance you have getting rid of drain clog quickly.

If that doesn’t work, try cleaning the drain piping removing the J-bend on the trap below the fixture.

Shower without fear!

Nothing disrupts a relaxing shower like a rush of scalding water or cold water when someone flushes a toilet.

Fortunately, this common problem is easily solved by installing a pressure balance device on the hot and cold water that feeds the shower faucet to detect changes in pressure and automatically balance it. Alternatively, you can have the shower faucet replaced with a pressure balance faucet.

For shower faucet installment or replacement, Dan King is ready to help!

Drain Clogs: Demystified

June 24th, 2010 admin

Drain clog? Throw away those poisonous drain cleaners!

Bio-Clean is a safe alternative for keeping your drains flowing freely. Bio-Clean’s friendly bacteria eat away at greasy slime buildup and odorous residue, leaving your pipes and waste water systems in top condition all year around when applied on a routine basis.

Chemical drain openers use caustic chemicals which burn or dissolve a hole in the buildup blocking your drains, provide temporary relief and regular use will damage your system. Bio-Clean contains the same ingredients that Mother Nature uses to break down dead plant and animal matter.

Bio-Clean’s  natural bacteria actually feast on the buildup lining your drains because it liquefies, biodegrades grease, food bits, human waste and hair.  Bio-Clean is the safe for  human handling and  is environmentally safe.

Bio-Clean is only available through licensed contractors. Call our Dan King office (704)-566-8463 or ask us about Bio-Clean when we’re in your home.
